Christmas 2011

This year was Chrismas in California and as Matt said you could hardly tell it was Christmas considering the sun was shining, trees still had leaves on them, and it was a toasty 70 ish degrees. Because we were out of town for 2 Sundays, we missed both announcements about our ward Christmas party so we missed Daniel seeing Santa. That meant that we had to take him to the mall, but we went with Jeff & Shannon and their kids so it was a little more fun. But I'm super glad we normally get his picture at church because Santa rips you off when you want pictures from the mall. Daniel's hair is so long that the one where he's smiling (awkwardly) it looks like he has elf ears. Then the one where he was asking for "3 cars and a cars blanket" was too cute to pass up.

We went to my dad's for Christmas Eve for chicken enchiladas (yummy!) and had a good time, though we were pretty sure that the boys were going to destroy his apartment! I don't have any pictures from that night because I suck. Daniel came home with a mountain of presents though. One of the highlights was when Clayton opened his Cars memory game and said "OOOHHHH!!! THAAAANK YOUUUU!!!!" He was so frickin excited about it, we thought he might cry. It was hilarious!

Christmas morning Daniel walked right by the tree and came to our room. He still might be a little young to understand! He made out like a bandit though: Santa brought him everything he wanted and a few things more.

Matt had a pretty awesome Christmas. Phil's sister in law's something or other (there's a trail there) cleans Tim Tebow's house so Ali & LouAnne sent Matt a signed football and poster. He was super excited and now after we bought a case for the football it is sitting on our shelf next to our Christus. Yep. It's pretty important. After Ali told me she was sending them, I thought what the crap am I buying anything for him since it's going to suck in comparison. But I did make him a new Broncos blanket. He had a blanket that Sister Leacock made him for when he got baptized that had little triangles for the edging and everything. Baptism - like 19 years ago baptism. It was toast. Rips everywhere, even though I have repaired it multiple times. So I made him a new one and let me tell you, between making 180 triangles, multiple pinnings, sewing, multiple picking out of the stitches that were making it retarded, this blanket is the bain of my existence. Luckily, Debby Farrer is a miracle worker and helped me finish it! I told him that when this one dies, we are either buying one or calling sister Leacock to make him a new one cuz I'm not doing it!
Later that day we went over to my mom's where grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, & siblings all were. We were a little late on dinner so it made for a later day but that was all right. Daniel played Just Dance with his cousin Maddie and it was super awesome video footage I got! Daniel got even more loot, including art supplies, Mack the truck from Cars, his 2nd track of this Christmas, and Bumblebee. Clayton decided to play inside a box and close himself in there so that's those last pictures are of.

Since Daniel got a big boy blanket from Santa, we decided it was time for him to use the big boy bed (mostly because I didn't want to tuck in a comforter on the trundle bed). So here is where Daniel sleeps now. My baby isn't a baby anymore. =( But he is absolutely loving it! That was our Christmas. Hopefully yours was just as awesome!

Naples Night

The one thing that I think I look forward to the most every Christmas season is this FHE we get invited to by people in the ward. They invite practically the whole ward to their house where we carpool down to Naples in Long Beach and walk along the canal to look at Christmas lights and then go back to their house for hot chocolate, homemade apple cider (my favorite), and goodies. When we got there, the first house we saw was Clark Griswold's house. Not the actual one but that's how the house was decorated, down to the trailor and uncle Eddie emptying the sewage. I got some pictures to share.

They even had the Santa lawn decoration that he kicks!

Then there was this one house that had a roller coaster in their yard with a mickey mouse, elmo, and a headless ET dolls. Daniel was super excited about this one and that's where the picture came from. The picture doesn't do justice how thrilled he was! After looking at the lights we went back for goodies and the missionaries came over for goodies. One of the missionaries we really like because he's still himself and is still a really good missionary. I forget how it came up but he mentioned that he had a dream that David Archuleta was his mission companion and it was the worst nightmare of his life! It was hilarious! Can't wait for next years Naples night!

Thanksgiving in Utah?

That's not a misprint. No we did not spend Thanksgiving with Grandma Judie and Grandpa Peanut for the 2nd year in a row. We had a Brinkerhoff Thanksgiving in Highland so we could fit our massive and ever growing family into 2 houses instead of one. It made late night random funny togetherness a little bit more logistically challenging but we were up for it. We had the whole week off so we drove up there the Saturday before. On Sunday when we went to church, my favorite part was when Daniel was upset that TJ wasn't sitting with us because he was conducting the meeting. Then when Sacrament meeting was over he stood on the bench and yelled out "TJ!" I think he likes his uncle. Matt's parents & Josh came in Sunday night and the Thompsons plus Taylor came Wednesday night. Early in the week, I got my new necklace that I've been wanting since early September. It's a locket that I can put charms in so I have an "M" for Matt, an emerald for Daniel's birthday, a peridot for Nathan's birthday, and little blue baby hand prints. It's something I can always have with me so it's pretty much perfect. I've gotten dozens of compliments on it too. On Thanksgiving morning a whole bunch of us retards actually got up early to run a 5K. And paid for it. Logically as I say it out loud, it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense but apparently I felt the need to do it. It was nice finishing it though, I'm not going to lie. I finished in 35 minutes so I might as well have been walking but nevertheless I can attest that I was indeed "jogging" 95% of the time. I stopped only once for about the length of a the Walmart. After the Turkey Trot, they had a kids dash and I wanted Daniel to do it because all the other kiddos were and I thought it would be super cute. He wasn't thrilled though because he was still half asleep so Brooklyn and Reece had to hold his hand to get him to go to the starting line and we had to promise him a new car. All about the currency, right Julie? He was excited about his medal that he got though later in the day because it was "just like Brady's" since Brady has a bunch of karate medals in his room.

He looks super excited right?

Thanksgiving dinner was super yummy and I think I have a newfound appreciation for potato pearls after how long it took me to wash, peel, and cut an entire 40 pound bag (ok I might be exaggerating) of potatoes. The kids got to sit at the fancy table so they felt special. I especially enjoyed the turkey cupcakes though.

Friday we didn't do the whole black Friday shopping thing. We went out later in the day for a few things and scored on a few deals but it was nice just relaxing. That night we had an adult night at Tepenyaki because I hadn't been there since Matt and I were engaged. I know, it's a little ridiculous. The funniest part of the night was LouAnne flipping out over TJ saying "baconhead" all night. I know that sounds retarded and it totally was but if you were there you would've been laughing, promise. Especially since it continued on later night as we played our Nertz tournament, where we were champions again! Which was good considering we hadn't added anything to the trophy yet from the last time we won. We left the next morning and were still wiped out on Sunday but it was a total blast!
