At the beginning of the school year, I was a little annoyed when I saw the school schedule because instead of just the Thursday and Friday of Thanksgiving week off, we had the WHOLE week off. Not that it’s bad to have a week off, but it meant that we started school a week early – that’s cutting into my summer vacation! I was thinking, what the crap am I going to do having the whole week off? Not that I don’t have a ton of things I could do; it’s just that we weren’t going anywhere. Well it actually turned out to be a good thing. Things got a little switched this year, seeing as we were supposed to have Colorado Christmas this year. Instead, we had Thanksgiving in Colorado this year and we’ll do Christmas there next year. So that meant we were able to spend more time with the Brinkerhoff family over the break. It also meant that we were able to drive there instead of flying so it saved us about $500 worth of airfare. We had a great time, most of the time just hanging out and doing nothing. On Tuesday we went to the mall to see Santa, which did not go over so well with Daniel. He wanted no part of Santa. He was ok when all the kids got together for a picture with him, but not alone. He didn't want any part of Santa at the ward Christmas party either, even though the second we walked away from him, he kept saying "Santa! Santa!" On Thanksgiving morning, there was a 5K by Lindsay’s house that was going on and Julie, Lindsay, Ali, and Phil were going to run it. They wanted all of us to run it, but let’s be honest – I haven’t actually RUN since before I was pregnant. I’m strictly a walking or elliptical girl. I only ran in soccer because there was another purpose besides just running. There was no way I was running a 5K. But Lou Anne and I decided we would walk it. We pushed Daniel in the stroller in 40 degree weather uphill for what seemed like way more than half of it. So I can say that I’ve finished a 5K – just not running. Then later that day we had a huge Thanksgiving meal. Huge on 2 accounts because 1. there was a ton of food and 2. there were a ton of people (19). Then that night we were able to go to the Broncos game against the Giants. I was pretty excited because, even though I’ve been to college football games, I’ve never been to a pro game before. We were sitting in the 2nd to last row but we could see everything. It was cold, but it was a lot of fun. Plus we won. I thought it was mostly funny when Cartman from South Park came on the jumbotron and cheered on the team. Then came 4 AM Black Friday shopping. I’m not entirely sure why I went because I don’t think that I was able to get any super super great deals because I wasn’t looking for anything specific. Literally the only thing people had told me they wanted were gift cards. Then that night was the Brinkerhoff tournament of Champions. We decided earlier in the week to make a trophy, similar to the one on Friends where they had the troll doll nailed to a 2x4. Julie and I bought this hot wheels car that came with a clear display case and Matt attached it to a broken light saber from the house. It was pretty awesome when it lit up. Matt and I were in the lead the whole game practically and we lost it on the last round to Lindsay and Colton. Lame. It was a really fun trip though and I’m glad we were able to make it. Hopefully we can find a way to make it for the reception too. We shall see.
